Public health operations advanced swiftly in Abuja on Monday as the confirmed Ebola patient set for evacuation from Nigeria prepared to depart aboard a dedicated medical charter for specialized overseas care.

The 42-year-old woman, who represents Nigeria's index case in the current regional outbreak, has been receiving care under high-level containment in the Federal Capital Territory.

Arrangements were finalized overnight to transfer her via a specialized medical evacuation aircraft stationed at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, with official confirmation expected once the aircraft exits Nigerian airspace.

Medical Evacuation and Current Health Status The patient tested positive on October 20 for the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus after returning from travel across East Africa earlier this month.

Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate previously noted that the patient had stabilized under clinical management within an isolated treatment facility.

Authorities coordinated the international transfer with diplomatic representatives and global medical specialists to guarantee seamless clinical oversight during transit.

Officials emphasized that the transport protocol follows strict biosafety procedures designed to eliminate any exposure risk to ground crew, airport staff, or the public.

Suspected Cases in Abuja and Rivers Test Negative Alongside the evacuation preparations, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention delivered a reassuring update regarding ongoing surveillance.

NCDC Director-General Dr. Jide Idris announced that laboratory analyses for two suspected cases—one identified in the Federal Capital Territory and another in Rivers State, both returned negative results for Ebola virus disease.

The agency confirmed that no secondary transmissions have been recorded across the country.

Public health teams continue to monitor 53 primary contacts connected to the index patient. That number includes 44 healthcare workers from the hospital facility where she first sought medical attention, alongside domestic staff and persons linked to places she visited in Abuja.

Heightened Airport Screening and Contact Support Federal authorities have placed health checkpoints at international airports on elevated alert. Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo confirmed that travel bans were implemented for quarantined contacts to prevent movement outside designated zones.

Port health teams at major gateways across Lagos, Abuja, Kano, and Port Harcourt are conducting digital health declarations, physical temperature screenings, and passenger travel reviews for travelers arriving from outbreak zones.

To ease compliance during isolation, federal officials are considering a weekly welfare allowance of 100,000 naira for individuals undergoing mandatory 21-day quarantine.

The NCDC reiterated that the national containment architecture remains fully activated, urging citizens to avoid rumors, maintain standard hand hygiene, and report unexplained fever or bleeding symptoms to public health helplines.
