UK Prosecutors Confirm Poco Lee’s Case Is Still Active

Nigerian dancer and hypeman Poco Lee, born Iweh Odinaka, is still scheduled to appear before a London court on September 15, despite widespread social media claims that he has been released from custody and that the criminal case against him has been dropped.

The clarification came from the UK Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), which confirmed that the proceedings remain active and that Poco Lee is due to appear before Snaresbrook Crown Court for a Plea and Trial Preparation Hearing (PTPH).

The hearing is a pre-trial stage in the UK criminal justice system where the defendant is expected to enter a plea and the court sets directions for any subsequent trial. It is not the trial itself, and no determination of guilt or innocence will be made at that hearing.

The CPS issued the statement after online reports claimed the entertainer had regained his freedom and that the complainant had withdrawn the allegations or reached an out-of-court settlement. Prosecutors said those claims could not be substantiated and stressed that the case remains before the courts.

Poco Lee is facing five sexual offence charges in the United Kingdom: one count of attempted rape, two counts of rape, and two counts of assault by penetration. The allegations relate to an incident reported during his visit to London in August for the Davido and Friends concert at Crystal Palace Bowl. The court has also imposed a reporting restriction protecting the identity of the complainant under UK law.

The entertainer’s management has previously urged the public and media to avoid spreading unverified narratives about the case, emphasizing that the allegations should not be interpreted as proof of guilt and that the matter should be allowed to proceed through the judicial process.

As the September 15 hearing approaches, uncertainty remains over Poco Lee’s custody status, as neither the CPS nor the court has confirmed whether he is on bail or remains on remand. What has been confirmed, however, is that the legal proceedings are continuing as scheduled.

The case has drawn significant attention across Nigeria’s entertainment industry, but it also serves as a reminder of a fundamental legal principle: allegations are not convictions. The outcome will ultimately depend on evidence presented before the UK courts, making due process, not social media speculation, the decisive authority.
