Trump Invites Public to Help Rename Artificial Intelligence

U.S. President Donald Trump has launched an unusual public campaign to find a new name for Artificial Intelligence (AI), asking Americans to vote on alternative titles and submit their own suggestions through social media. The proposal comes as the White House intensifies its focus on AI policy ahead of a broader government initiative on the technology.

Trump raised the issue in a Truth Social post on Sunday, arguing that the phrase “Artificial Intelligence” no longer accurately or elegantly describes the technology’s capabilities. “Many people think that the words ‘Artificial Intelligence’ are inaccurate, and very ineloquent, relative to AI, or Artificial Intelligence,” he wrote. Trump proposed three alternative names, Superior Intelligence, Extreme Intelligence and Supreme Intelligence, saying they offered a more fitting description of what he called the technology’s ongoing revolution. “This is a Poll, and I would appreciate everybody voting!” he told followers, inviting the public to choose their preferred name.

The naming initiative follows Trump’s recent announcement that he intends to establish an “AI Force” and appoint an AI czar to coordinate federal policy on artificial intelligence. In that earlier statement, he argued that while concerns about AI are often overstated, the United States must ensure powerful AI systems remain subject to existing criminal and civil laws.

Trump’s latest comments highlight how artificial intelligence has become an increasingly prominent political issue in the United States. Beyond debates over regulation, governments are now competing to shape the language, governance and strategic direction of rapidly advancing AI technologies.
