Dubai Launches World’s First Authority Dedicated to Human Longevity
Dubai has moved its new Longevity Authority into full operation after Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan approved its strategy and budget to build the world’s first regulated longevity economy.

Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has approved the strategy and operating budget of the Dubai Longevity Authority (DLA), marking the transition of the world’s first dedicated regulator for the Longevity, Wellness and Advanced Health (LWAH) sector from establishment to full implementation.
The approval followed the Authority’s inaugural board meeting, where members endorsed its operational roadmap and governance priorities. Dubai officials say the new regulator will oversee one of the emirate’s fastest-growing health industries, with a mission that extends beyond increasing lifespan to helping people live more years in good health.
The DLA forms part of Dubai’s broader economic diversification strategy, positioning the city as a global hub for preventive healthcare, biotechnology, wellness innovation and healthy ageing. Rather than functioning as a conventional healthcare agency, the Authority is expected to regulate an emerging ecosystem that combines medical science, digital health, research and lifestyle technologies.
Officials described the latest decision as the beginning of the Authority’s operational phase. With its strategy and budget now approved, the DLA will begin developing regulatory standards, attracting international investment and supporting companies working across longevity and advanced health technologies.
The Authority is also expected to establish policies that encourage innovation while ensuring safety, quality and ethical oversight in a sector increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, genomics, precision medicine and digital diagnostics.
Dubai has identified longevity as a future growth industry with significant economic potential. The LWAH sector spans preventive medicine, nutrition, fitness, regenerative therapies, biotechnology, wearable health devices and age-related medical research, creating opportunities for both healthcare providers and technology companies.
Government leaders believe integrating these industries under a dedicated regulatory framework will accelerate private-sector investment, strengthen research partnerships and attract global talent to the emirate. The initiative aligns with Dubai’s ambition to become a leading destination for innovation-driven industries beyond finance, tourism and logistics.
The Dubai Longevity Authority is being presented as the world’s first specialized regulator dedicated exclusively to longevity and advanced wellness. International interest in the field has grown rapidly as ageing populations drive demand for preventive healthcare, personalized medicine and technologies designed to improve quality of life rather than simply treat disease.
Analysts say countries are increasingly competing to become centres for longevity research, with governments investing in biotechnology, healthy ageing and digital health infrastructure. Dubai’s approach differs by creating a single regulatory body focused on coordinating policy, investment and industry development across the entire longevity ecosystem.
The launch of the DLA signals more than a healthcare reform, it represents a new economic strategy built around the future of human wellbeing. If successfully implemented, Dubai could establish itself as a global benchmark for regulating and commercializing longevity technologies, influencing how governments and businesses approach healthy ageing in the decades ahead.
