Peter Obi addressed supporters in Nasarawa State on Saturday, promising comprehensive protection for ballot integrity across the nation. The NDC presidential candidate stated that illegal tampering with voter choices will face immediate legal resistance during the upcoming general polls.
Speaking before party members in the Akwanga Local Government Area, the standard-bearer outlined his strategy for institutional accountability. He stressed that a credible electoral process remains essential for national stability and fair governance.
Zero Tolerance for Electoral Malpractice
Obi told the town hall audience that his political movement will actively resist all attempts to manipulate voting figures. He maintained that lawful vigilance at polling units will counter anyone attempting to subvert the genuine will of citizens.
He pledged that under his administration, the rule of law will govern every citizen equally without exception. He noted that public officials, security agencies, and ordinary voters must all answer to the same constitutional standards.
The former Anambra State governor stated that strengthening Nigeria's electoral framework will permanently end systematic vote alteration. He promised that public institutions will enforce severe legal penalties against anyone caught interfering with election results.
Demands for Transparency and Economic Accountability
Beyond electoral integrity, Obi raised concerns regarding ongoing economic policies and federal expenditure. He pointed out that corruption and lack of transparent management, rather than the removal policy itself, caused widespread hardship under the fuel subsidy regime.
He directly challenged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to present a verifiable accounting of all revenue saved from fuel subsidy removal since May 2023. He argued that citizens deserve clear records showing how national funds are allocated and spent.
The candidate also criticised frequent presidential foreign travels during critical national challenges. He noted that genuine leadership demands constant, focused attention on domestic economic pressures and internal security reforms.
Campaign Momentum and Coalition Priorities
Obi's remarks in Nasarawa highlight an expanding nationwide tour focused on northern grassroots communities. Campaigning alongside coalition figures including former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, the platform continues to prioritise administrative transparency, food security, and electoral credibility.
As preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify, political observers will monitor how electoral authorities and security agencies address concerns surrounding polling unit protection. Obi maintains that transparent voting remains the single most important step toward restoring public confidence in Nigerian democracy.
