INEC Revises NDC Records, Lists New Chairman and Official Digital Logo
INEC has updated the Nigeria Democratic Congress’ official records, uploading its new digital logo and recognizing a revised national leadership following a Federal High Court judgment.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially uploaded the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)’s modified logo and updated the party’s national leadership on its website, complying with a Federal High Court order that resolved a dispute over the party’s official identity.
The electoral commission’s updated records now recognize the NDC’s new digital two-finger victory sign logo, replacing the previous emblem that had remained on INEC’s platform despite the party’s decision to adopt a new visual identity earlier this year.
Alongside the logo, INEC revised the party’s leadership structure, listing Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe as National Chairman and Barrister Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu as National Secretary. The commission also updated the offices of National Treasurer, National Financial Secretary and National Legal Adviser, marking each change as having been made “by court order.”
The development follows a judgment delivered by Justice J.O. Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1814/2026. The court ruled that INEC’s refusal to recognize the NDC’s modified logo was unconstitutional and directed the commission to immediately approve and utilize the party’s new symbol and colours for all electoral purposes.
According to court filings, the NDC argued that its National Executive Committee had lawfully adopted the new logo during its inaugural NEC meeting on March 25, 2026, before forwarding it to INEC for recognition. The party maintained that the commission initially uploaded the logo but later removed it without explanation and reverted to an older association emblem, prompting the legal challenge.
Following the court victory, the NDC welcomed the update, describing it as an affirmation of its constitutional rights and a significant step in its preparations for future elections. The party said the new logo better reflects its identity and would now serve as its official symbol in all political activities recognized by INEC.
The ruling is also a reminder of the judiciary’s growing role in resolving disputes between political parties and electoral institutions. As Nigeria’s political landscape continues to evolve ahead of the 2027 elections, questions of party identity, leadership legitimacy and regulatory compliance are becoming increasingly significant.
By implementing the court’s directive, INEC has brought clarity to the NDC’s official status and reinforced the principle that electoral administration must operate within the bounds of judicial decisions. The update provides the party with formal recognition of both its leadership and its new visual identity as it positions itself for the next electoral cycle.
