UAE Opens Bookings for Historic Dubai–Abu Dhabi Etihad Rail Service

The United Arab Emirates has officially opened ticket sales for its long-awaited Etihad Rail passenger service connecting Dubai and Abu Dhabi, with commercial operations scheduled to begin on September 30. The launch marks a major milestone in the country’s transport network, introducing high-speed intercity rail travel between its two largest cities and expanding the UAE’s vision for integrated, sustainable mobility.

Passengers can now book seats through Etihad Rail’s official website and digital platforms, with Comfort Class fares starting from Dh39 per person and Premium Class tickets from Dh109. The pricing structure is designed to make rail travel competitive with existing road transport while offering a range of travel experiences for commuters, tourists and business travellers.

The first train from Dubai to Abu Dhabi will depart at 6:15 a.m., with four additional services operating throughout the day. The journey is expected to take just 1 hour and 4 minutes, providing one of the fastest public transport options between the two emirates. Meanwhile, passengers travelling from Dubai to Fujairah will initially have one daily service, with the trip scheduled to last 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Travellers will be able to choose between Comfort Class and Premium Class, each offering distinct onboard amenities. Comfort Class includes complimentary Wi-Fi, power sockets at every seat and access to a food and beverage trolley service, while Premium Class features wider reclining seats, additional legroom, complimentary refreshments and snacks, and a quieter cabin environment for a more exclusive travel experience.

Etihad Rail has also introduced three ticket categories: Saver, Value and Flex, giving passengers different levels of flexibility. The Saver fare is the most affordable option but automatically assigns seats, does not permit ticket changes and is non-refundable, while the higher-tier options provide greater booking flexibility for travellers with changing schedules.

The Dubai–Abu Dhabi route represents the first phase of Etihad Rail’s passenger operations, building on the national railway network that has already transformed freight transport across the Emirates. The broader project is expected to connect multiple emirates through a modern rail system that integrates with existing public transport infrastructure and supports long-term economic development.

Beyond convenience, the railway is expected to reduce highway congestion, lower transport-related carbon emissions and strengthen commercial links between the UAE’s major economic centres. Improved mobility is also anticipated to benefit tourism, labour movement and regional investment by making intercity travel faster and more predictable.

As bookings begin ahead of the September 30 launch, Etihad Rail is poised to redefine how people move across the Emirates. The debut of the passenger service signals not only a new chapter in UAE transportation but also a broader shift toward smart, connected and sustainable infrastructure across the Gulf.
