Peter Mbah Unveils 10,000+ Milestones Compendium as Enugu Transformation Accelerates

Governor Peter Mbah has officially unveiled a comprehensive record of more than 10,000 milestones achieved by his administration across key sectors of Enugu State's economy, presenting it as a public account of projects and reforms delivered since assuming office in May 2023.

The compendium, titled “A Thousand and One Reasons Why Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah Should Be Re-elected as Governor of Enugu State,” was presented at the International Conference Centre, Enugu, just eight months before the end of the governor's first tenure. It chronicles achievements spanning infrastructure, education, healthcare, security, aviation, water supply, urban renewal and public sector reforms.

Among its headline figures are 1,521 kilometres of constructed and reconstructed roads, more than 7,000 classrooms, 260 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres, the launch of Enugu Air, and the development of the New Enugu Smart City. The publication also highlights the state's ultramodern Command and Control Centre, expanded security infrastructure, major investments in water projects and the revitalization of previously abandoned public assets.

Represented at the event by Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai, Mbah said the document reflects the principles of the Citizens Charter, also known as Executive Order 001, which he signed immediately after his inauguration on May 29, 2023. He said the executive order established accountability, traceability and transparency as the foundation of his administration.

According to the governor, the compendium captures his government's philosophy of disruptive innovation through large-scale infrastructure and institutional reforms designed to open up rural communities, improve connectivity and create new corridors for commerce, agriculture, investment and economic activity across the state.

Mbah, however, clarified that the publication does not represent the full extent of his administration's accomplishments. He explained that the document was compiled using a cut-off date several months earlier and therefore excludes numerous projects completed after that period.

“It is important to note that the document we are about to unveil does not entirely capture everything this government has done. It does not, in any material sense, represent the actual achievements of this government as of September 9, 2026,” he said.

The governor also used the occasion to thank residents who supported his election and those who made sacrifices during the implementation of difficult policy decisions. Reaffirming his long-term vision, he said his administration remains focused on placing Enugu on “an irreversible path of greatness” and transforming the state into a $30 billion economy and a preferred destination for investment, business, tourism and quality living.

In his welcome address, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, said Enugu had pursued one of its most ambitious urban transformation programmes, citing the New Enugu Smart City, environmental sustainability initiatives and extensive urban renewal projects. He added that the state's fiscal architecture had been strengthened through revenue automation, reforms at the Enugu State Internal Revenue Service, the Treasury Single Account, enterprise resource planning and broader institutional restructuring.

Onyia also highlighted sustained investments in youth empowerment, women's development, technology, skills acquisition, tourism, social protection and community development, stressing that the administration's ultimate objective is to improve the lives of ordinary citizens.

Coinciding with the unveiling, Governor Mbah received an Honorary Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) from the University of East London, his alma mater in the United Kingdom. The university said the honour recognises his exceptional leadership, entrepreneurial accomplishments and contributions to public service.

The unveiling of the 10,000-milestone compendium marks more than a political scorecard. It represents an effort to institutionalize performance-based governance by documenting measurable outcomes and inviting public scrutiny. As Enugu prepares for its next electoral cycle, the lasting judgment of the administration will rest not only on the scale of its projects, but on how deeply those investments continue to improve economic opportunity and the everyday lives of its people.
