Nigeria to Host Global Alliance–World Public Relations Forum 2026 in Historic African First

Nigeria has been confirmed as the host of the Global Alliance–World Public Relations Forum (WPRF) 2026, with the landmark event scheduled for November 2026 in Abuja. The forum will make history as the first time Africa hosts the World Public Relations Forum alongside the African Public Relations Association (APRA) Conference, in partnership with the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).

The announcement positions Nigeria at the centre of the global communications industry, with delegates from 126 countries expected to attend one of the world’s largest gatherings of public relations and strategic communication professionals. The Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management, the international umbrella body representing more than 300,000 communicators worldwide, is organizing the event alongside NIPR and APRA.

Preparations received a major boost after Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas hosted Prof. Justin Green, President and CEO of the Global Alliance, at the National Assembly. During the visit, Abbas pledged Nigeria’s commitment to delivering a world-class event and expressed gratitude for Green’s decade-long campaign to secure Africa’s place on the global PR calendar.

“This is a big opportunity… Thank you so much for identifying with us in Africa, and I assure you that Nigeria and Africa will not let you down,” Abbas said.

As part of the November programme, the Speaker is expected to deliver the keynote address at the Parliamentary Democracy Day celebration and officially open a special Exhibition Pavilion showcasing the legislative history of Nigeria’s National Assembly, adding a governance and democratic leadership dimension to the international forum.

Prof. Green described the hosting rights as a defining moment for the continent, noting that visitors from across the globe would experience a unique African welcome. He recalled positive encounters with Nigerians abroad and said participants arriving from 126 countries would receive “something that they have never ever received before,” expressing confidence that Nigeria would set a new benchmark for the global event.

NIPR President Dr. Ike Neliaku said the achievement followed years of sustained lobbying to bring the forum to Africa. While the World Public Relations Forum held a conference on the continent in 2007, he explained that 2026 will be the first edition to be jointly hosted with the APRA Conference, creating an unprecedented platform for African and global communicators to meet under one umbrella. He also noted that Africa’s representation within the Global Alliance has expanded to six member bodies during Prof. Green’s leadership.

Beyond the professional programme, WPRF 2026 is expected to generate significant economic and tourism benefits for Nigeria through conference travel, hospitality, investment networking and international business engagement. The forum will also feature discussions on artificial intelligence, crisis communication, ethical leadership, reputation management and the future of strategic communication in government and business.
