Enugu Recruits 2,299 Teachers to Drive Smart Green Schools Initiative

The Enugu State Government has announced the employment of 2,299 teachers to serve in its flagship Smart Green Schools, marking one of the largest education recruitment exercises in the state’s recent history.

The newly recruited teachers will be deployed across the Smart Green Schools being established in all 260 political wards of Enugu State. The initiative forms a central pillar of Governor Peter Mbah’s education reform agenda, which seeks to expand access to quality learning while integrating technology, environmental sustainability and modern teaching methods into public education.

According to the state government, the recruitment followed a competitive selection process designed to identify qualified educators capable of delivering digital and learner-centred education. Officials said the teachers would receive specialized training before assuming their duties, ensuring they are equipped to teach in technology-enabled classrooms.

The Smart Green Schools project goes beyond constructing school buildings. Each campus is designed as a modern learning environment with digital classrooms, science and innovation facilities, renewable energy features and spaces that encourage creativity, entrepreneurship and environmental awareness.

State officials say the objective is to prepare children for the demands of a rapidly changing global economy by combining academic excellence with practical, technology-driven skills from an early age.

The recruitment is also expected to create thousands of professional employment opportunities while reducing teacher shortages in public schools across urban and rural communities.
