Soludo Endorses Tinubu for 2027 During First Lady’s Awka Reception

Anambra State Governor Professor Charles Soludo has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office, saying the administration’s economic reforms require continuity to build a stronger, more equitable and prosperous Nigeria.

Soludo made the remarks in Awka during a civic reception organised in honour of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, at Alex Ekwueme Square, where political leaders, traditional rulers, women’s groups and community stakeholders gathered to welcome her to the state.

Addressing the audience, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria said Nigeria was undergoing one of its most significant periods of economic restructuring, insisting that the difficult decisions taken by the Tinubu administration were laying the foundation for long-term national renewal rather than short-term political gain.

According to Soludo, reforms aimed at stabilizing public finances, encouraging investment, expanding infrastructure and strengthening domestic production need sustained implementation to produce meaningful benefits for ordinary Nigerians. He argued that abandoning the process midway could undermine the progress already made.

His endorsement comes as political conversations ahead of the 2027 general election continue to gather momentum, with influential political figures increasingly signalling their positions even though formal presidential campaigns have yet to begin.

The Tinubu administration has defended its policy direction by pointing to reforms in the petroleum sector, exchange-rate liberalisation, infrastructure development and efforts to widen social investment programmes. At the same time, the government continues to face criticism over persistent inflation, rising food prices and the broader cost-of-living pressures confronting households and businesses.

Soludo’s support is particularly noteworthy because he leads the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) rather than the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). His public endorsement therefore reflects the complex political alliances that often emerge across party lines in Nigeria’s evolving democratic landscape.

The reception itself was held to honour First Lady Oluremi Tinubu’s visit to Anambra State, but it also became a platform for broader reflections on governance, national development and the future direction of the country’s leadership.

As Nigeria gradually moves toward another electoral cycle, Soludo’s remarks reinforce the central debate likely to shape 2027: whether voters will choose continuity in the belief that ongoing reforms will mature into lasting prosperity, or seek an alternative path in response to the immediate economic realities facing millions of Nigerians.
