Nigerian reggae artist John Obinna Ibegbulem, widely known by his stage name President Son, has released two studio albums at the same time. The musical projects, titled Rasta Man No Violence and Straight Out of Oklahoma, represent a conscious effort to revive the reggae genre across the domestic music industry.

Hailing from Mbaise in Imo State, the musician explained that the simultaneous release delivers messages of peace, community unity, and personal perseverance. Both records are distributed digitally through Asaba-based label Virgin Birds Entertainment, founded by actor Cyril Pharaoh Chukwuemeka.

Harmonising Social Unity with Youth Empowerment

The first project, Rasta Man No Violence, combines traditional roots reggae with local musical influences to advocate communal peace. The singer stated that the project urges citizens to embrace peaceful coexistence and support neighbours as family during challenging social times.

The companion album, Straight Out of Oklahoma, presents motivational themes inspired by his international travel experiences. The musician noted that the songs encourage young people to pursue their goals with resilience despite economic hurdles.

President Son explained that the two albums explore complementary themes, which prompted his decision to release them together on digital streaming platforms. He noted that pairing message-driven roots tracks with uplifting motivational songs offers balanced listening for music fans.

From Early Group Beginnings to Global Stages

The recording artist began performing music during his primary school years and later joined the musical collective Rough and Ready. Following the group's disbandment in 2003, he launched his solo recording career in Lagos in 2004 before pursuing international performance opportunities.

His artistic journey led him to Egypt in 2007 and Tel Aviv, Israel, in 2008, where he entertained coastal audiences with acoustic reggae performances. He returned to Nigeria in 2011 to release his breakthrough track titled President Son, which inspired his permanent stage moniker.

Subsequent singles, including From Jerusalem to Tel-Aviv and Nigeria, addressed national pride and patriotism while encouraging citizens to appreciate natural resources and positive community values. His current creative phase builds upon those roots, aiming to connect younger listeners with socially conscious songwriting.

Reviving Conscious Music in Modern Entertainment

In an entertainment landscape dominated by Afrobeats and fast-tempo street music, President Son maintains that reggae provides a vital voice for social conscience. He believes that conscious lyrics remain essential for uplifting communities and guiding youth development.

Music commentators note that independent double-album releases reflect artistic confidence within Nigeria's evolving alternative music spaces. With both records now accessible across major streaming outlets, President Son hopes to inspire a new generation of conscious roots artists across West Africa.
