NDC Unveils 2027 National Campaign Council

As political alignments accelerate across Nigeria, the opposition NDC unveils 2027 National Campaign Council leadership to drive its federal and grassroots election strategy. The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) released the official roster on Sunday, October 25, 2026, naming party National Leader Senator Henry Seriake Dickson as council chairman. Presidential candidate Peter Obi was appointed co-chairman, while former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso was named co-vice-chairman.

The comprehensive roster, announced by NDC National Publicity Secretary Osa Director in Abuja, brings together prominent opposition figures into a single command structure. Party leaders described the council as the primary operational engine designed to oversee presidential, gubernatorial, and legislative campaigns nationwide. The move sets the stage for the party’s third National Executive Committee meeting scheduled in the federal capital.

The campaign organ blends legislative veterans, former executive governors, and seasoned civil society strategists. Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, the NDC National Chairman, will serve as vice-chairman of the National Campaign Council, while National Secretary Barrister Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu functions as council secretary.

To handle operational strategy and day-to-day coordination, the party appointed Mallam Ibrahim Hussain Abdulkarim as director-general of the presidential campaign. Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, joins the apex National Campaign Caucus and chairs the National Campaign Advisory Council. Former Anambra State Governor Dr. Sam Egwu was named vice-chairman of the advisory wing.

Key political figures named to the strategic campaign caucus include Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Senator Victor Umeh, political strategist Buba Galadima, Professor Yakubu Ochefu, Professor Mahmud Gambo Jahun, Moshood Salvador, and National Woman Leader Dudu Manuga. Victor Ogene, chairman of the NDC House of Representatives Caucus, will coordinate legislative outreach alongside lawmaker Muktar Usman.

In addition to its apex leadership council, the NDC announced key appointments across its specialised National Campaign Directorates. Osa Director was designated Director of Communication and Media, with Dr. Constance Ikokwu appointed as Campaign Spokesperson to spearhead national media engagement.

To ensure field safety and ballot integrity, retired Major General John Enenche was named Director of Security and Intelligence. Dr. Danlami Arabs Rukujei will head Election Monitoring and Vote Protection, overseeing polling unit surveillance and compliance.

The party further unveiled a comprehensive roster of State Campaign Coordinators across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Prominent appointees include Senator Nkechi Nwogu heading efforts in Abia State, Professor Silva Opuala-Charles in Bayelsa State, Mr. Ken Pela in Delta State, and Mr. Ife Salako leading mobilisation in Lagos State.

The nationwide appointments follow extensive consultative sessions between presidential candidate Peter Obi, national leader Seriake Dickson, Babachir Lawal, and the party’s National Working Committee. The meetings aimed to build broad regional consensus and maintain internal balance across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

In its official declaration, the NDC urged its members, supporters, and the public to maintain collective discipline ahead of the electoral contest. The party stated that unity remains essential as it works to rescue the country, affirming that a new and working Nigeria is possible.
