Indian Superstar Mammootty Heads to Sharjah for Grand 50-Year Cinema Tribute

Indian screen icon Mammootty is set to take centre stage at the Sharjah Expo Centre in the United Arab Emirates on September 12, where a special live production titled Rajakeeyam will celebrate his extraordinary contribution to Indian cinema and his 50-year artistic legacy.

The event, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Expo Centre Sharjah, is expected to bring together thousands of fans from across the UAE and the wider Gulf for an evening dedicated to one of Malayalam cinema’s most celebrated actors. Organizers say the show will combine live performances, musical tributes and appearances by leading filmmakers, actors and playback singers who have shared Mammootty’s journey over the decades.

Mammootty, who was recently honoured with India’s Padma Bhushan, has built one of the most distinguished careers in Asian cinema. With more than 400 films to his name, three National Film Awards and numerous Kerala State Film Awards, the veteran actor has earned admiration across generations for performances that span commercial blockbusters, historical dramas and critically acclaimed independent films.

The Rajakeeyam celebration will feature an impressive lineup of industry personalities, including acclaimed filmmakers Adoor Gopalakrishnan and Hariharan, actor Siddique, pianist and composer Stephen Devassy, as well as popular playback singers Madhu Balakrishnan, Aravind Venugopal, Nithya Mammen, Jyotsna Radhakrishnan and actress-singer Remya Nambeesan. Actress Anu Sithara and comedian-presenter Ramesh Pisharody are also expected to appear.

Tickets for the event have been released across multiple seating categories, with prices ranging from Dh50 to Dh1,000, making the celebration accessible to a broad audience while offering premium fan experiences. Doors will open at 4 p.m., ahead of the evening’s performances.

The tribute comes as the UAE continues to strengthen its reputation as a cultural hub for South Asian entertainment. With a large Malayali expatriate community calling the Emirates home, Sharjah has increasingly hosted major film, music and comedy productions that connect diaspora audiences with some of India’s biggest stars.
