Emirates Unveils World’s First Electric Premium Economy Seat with Full-Height Privacy Screen
Emirates has unveiled the world’s first electrically powered Premium Economy seat with a full-height privacy screen, raising the bar for mid-tier luxury travel.

Emirates has unveiled what it describes as the world’s first electrically powered Premium Economy seat featuring a full-height adjustable privacy screen, marking a major innovation in commercial aviation as airlines compete to redefine the premium travel experience. The airline announced the new cabin product in a release published by World Airline News and its official media centre.
The new seat will debut on newly delivered Airbus A350 aircraft, where Emirates’ Premium Economy cabin will feature just 28 seats arranged in a spacious 2-3-2 configuration. The airline says the design gives passengers greater control over their personal space while offering comfort that narrows the gap between Premium Economy and Business Class.
At the heart of the launch is the electric privacy divider, which extends to the full height of each seat and can be raised or lowered at the touch of a button. Passengers can also adjust their seating position electronically through dedicated settings, including lounge and meal modes, making it the first fully electric seat of its kind in the Premium Economy category.
Emirates has paired the innovation with several comfort upgrades. The leather U-Dream headrest features adjustable wings for improved neck support, while a deployable leather footrest is designed to reduce fatigue on long-haul flights. The 20-inch-wide seats offer up to 39 inches of pitch and recline into a cradle position without encroaching on the passenger seated behind.

Technology also plays a central role in the redesigned cabin. For the first time in Premium Economy, passengers will have wireless charging, alongside USB-C ports, a tray table with an integrated phone holder, and a 13.3-inch 4K HDR touchscreen running Emirates’ award-winning ice entertainment system. The new A350s will additionally introduce left and right exterior aircraft cameras, expanding the immersive live-view experience already available onboard.
Beyond the seat itself, Emirates is upgrading the overall Premium Economy journey with gourmet meals served on Royal Doulton fine china, an expanded premium wine programme. including exclusive sparkling wines on selected routes, and new reusable amenity kits made from bio-based materials in partnership with United for Wildlife. Long-haul travellers will also receive Aveda skincare products as part of the enhanced onboard offering.
Since introducing Premium Economy in 2022, Emirates has steadily expanded the cabin across its growing fleet, earning multiple international awards for the product. The airline says the latest electric seat represents its continued investment in passenger comfort and reinforces its ambition to make Premium Economy a genuine luxury alternative rather than simply an upgraded economy experience.
As global airlines increasingly compete for travellers willing to pay more for comfort without the price of Business Class, Emirates’ latest innovation signals that the next battleground in aviation may not be first-class luxury, but the evolution of Premium Economy itself.
