2Baba Begins Eight-City ‘The Baba Experience’ Tour Across UK, Ireland
Nigerian music icon 2Baba has begun an eight-city UK and Ireland tour celebrating his enduring catalogue and live-performance legacy.
Nigerian music star Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has taken his music to the United Kingdom and Ireland with an eight-city tour designed to reconnect the veteran singer with audiences across the diaspora.
Tagged “The Baba Experience,” the tour opened in London on August 21 and moves to Manchester on August 22. The schedule then takes 2Baba to Sunderland on August 28, Birmingham on August 29 and Edinburgh on August 30, before the tour resumes in September with dates in Reading and Derby and concludes in Dublin, Ireland, on September 11.
The tour is being promoted by Yankee Entertainment and BareN, with tickets made available through platforms including VTickets, Shoobs and Eventbrite. 2Baba's manager, Mallam Yankee, announced the schedule and confirmed the series of performances across the eight cities.
For 2Baba, the tour comes at a significant point in a career that has stretched across more than two decades and helped shape the sound and international profile of modern Nigerian popular music. Before establishing himself as a solo star, he was a member of Plantashun Boiz alongside Faze and Blackface, before embarking on a solo career that produced a string of enduring hits.
Among those songs, “African Queen” remains one of the defining records of his early solo years. Released in 2004, the song became a major international success and helped expose a wider global audience to Nigerian pop at a time when the country's music industry was beginning to build a stronger international presence.
The forthcoming performances also follow a busy year for the singer. In March, 2Baba staged a major Lagos concert as part of celebrations marking 25 years in the music industry. The event, also called “The 2Baba Experience,” brought together established Nigerian performers and younger acts and was positioned as a celebration of his contribution to the evolution of African music.
That anniversary concert provided a useful backdrop for the international tour. Rather than presenting 2Baba simply as a catalogue act revisiting old material, the latest run places his music in front of audiences at a time when Nigerian music has become considerably more established in international markets.
The UK and Ireland are particularly important destinations for Nigerian artists because of their large Nigerian and wider African communities, as well as the growing appetite for Afrobeats and African pop among mainstream audiences. For an artist with 2Baba's history, the tour offers an opportunity to reach longtime listeners who have followed his career from its early years while introducing his music to younger fans who encountered Nigerian music through the newer generation of Afrobeats stars.
The tour also reflects the changing economics of Nigerian music. International touring has become an increasingly important part of the business for artists who can build audiences outside Africa, providing opportunities for live-performance revenue and deeper connections with diaspora communities. For veteran performers, it can also help keep older catalogues commercially and culturally relevant.
The broader significance of “The Baba Experience” is therefore bigger than a series of concert dates. 2Baba belongs to a generation of Nigerian artists that helped create the foundation on which today's global Afrobeats movement was built. As he takes that catalogue across British and Irish cities, the tour offers another reminder that the history of Nigeria's global music boom is still being performed by many of the artists who helped start it.
