Harry Kane appears to be a strong contender as football’s biggest individual award is decided in London on Monday. Who will win the Ballon d'Or 2026 remains unanswered ahead of the ceremony, with Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappé also in contention.

The ceremony is scheduled for 20:00 GMT at the London Palladium. The official Ballon d’Or live coverage says the winners have not yet been revealed.

Why Kane is a leading contender Kane’s scoring record gives him a strong case. The official nominee list credits the Bayern Munich striker with 73 goals and eight assists in 65 appearances, alongside domestic trophies. A leading contender is not a confirmed winner, however.

Yamal offers a different case: the Barcelona forward recorded 25 goals and 20 assists in 57 appearances, according to the same list. Mbappé is also among the prominent contenders named in the award’s official live coverage. The final result depends on the jury’s votes, not public predictions.

How the award is decided Specialist journalists from 100 countries vote for the men’s award. Each juror ranks 10 players from the 30-person shortlist, awarding points from 15 for first place down to one for tenth.

The rules put individual performance and decisive impact first, followed by team achievements and fair play. The voting period covered the 2025–26 season, including international competitions.

What remains unknown before the gala Kane, Yamal and Mbappé are among several nominated players, so the award should not be treated as a two- or three-player race. The official nominee list also includes other leading performers, and the winner remains unknown until the ceremony announcement.

The 2026 event is the award’s 70th ceremony and is being held in London for the first time. UEFA says the city choice honours Stanley Matthews, the first Ballon d’Or winner, in 1956.

The answer will come when the jury result is announced at the London gala. Until then, Kane’s scoring numbers make a persuasive case, but they do not confirm the outcome.
