Nottingham Forest produced a stunning performance on Saturday evening to defeat Manchester City 3-1 at the City Ground.
Striker Liam Delap led the charge with two clinical goals against his former club. Defender Jair Cunha had opened the scoring inside six minutes, igniting the home crowd and ending Forest's long home goal drought in emphatic fashion.
The result lifted Forest out of the relegation zone and handed Manchester City their third consecutive Premier League defeat.
Early Pressure Rattles City Defense
Forest started with high intensity and took the lead almost immediately.
In the sixth minute, Jair Cunha dispossessed Joško Gvardiol near the edge of the penalty box. The Brazilian center-back drove forward into space and swept a left-footed strike past the goalkeeper into the corner of the net.
Forest doubled their advantage just twelve minutes later through swift counter-attacking play. Midfielder Xaver Schlager recovered possession and released Delap with a direct through-ball. The young forward outpaced his markers and drilled a composed finish into the bottom corner.
City dominated possession throughout the opening half but struggled to break down Forest’s organized defensive block.
Cherki Responds Before Delap Seals Victory
The visitors emerged from the break with greater urgency and pulled a goal back early in the second half.
Rayan Cherki found room on the edge of the area in the 52nd minute, beating Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels with a low, accurate drive. The strike gave City momentum and pushed Forest deeper into their own defensive third.
However, Forest absorbed the pressure and struck the decisive blow with seventeen minutes remaining.
Playmaker Morgan Gibbs-White controlled a cleared ball and delivered a precise cross into the penalty area. Delap timed his run perfectly, meeting the delivery on the volley to beat the goalkeeper and restore Forest’s two-goal cushion.
Title Setback for Visitors as Forest Climbs
The final whistle confirmed Forest’s first home win of the campaign, moving them out of the bottom three ahead of the international break.
For Manchester City, the defeat leaves them six points behind league leaders Arsenal after consecutive top-flight losses to Aston Villa, Brighton, and now Forest. The result marks City's first run of three straight league defeats in eight years, putting renewed scrutiny on their defensive structure and chance conversion.
Forest supporters celebrated a historic evening as the team answered early-season doubts with an inspired team display.
