Nigeria Seals Three US Mining Investment Deals Across Technology, Energy and Security
Nigeria has signed three strategic investment agreements with US partners to modernize its mining sector through technology, renewable energy and enhanced security.

Nigeria has secured three major investment partnerships with United States companies as the Federal Government steps up efforts to transform the country’s solid minerals industry into a globally competitive sector driven by technology, value addition and sustainable development.
The agreements, unveiled during the U.S.–Nigeria Strategic Investment Dialogue in New York, bring together Nigerian mining firm Promethean Resources with American partners Vermeer Corporation, Renewvia Energy and Terra Industries. The collaborations will focus on modern mining equipment, renewable energy infrastructure and security solutions for mining operations.
Speaking at the investment dialogue, Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, said the Tinubu administration is determined to move beyond policy discussions by turning investment frameworks into commercially viable projects that create jobs and accelerate industrial growth.
“Our priority is to translate dialogue and cooperation frameworks into tangible commercial partnerships that advance Nigeria’s industrial ambitions,” Oduwole said, describing the agreements as an important milestone in strengthening economic ties between Nigeria and the United States.
At the centre of the initiative is Promethean Resources, whose partnerships span three interconnected areas considered essential for developing a modern mining ecosystem: minerals, infrastructure and security.
Under the first agreement, Vermeer Corporation will work with Promethean Resources to explore the deployment of precision mining equipment across deposits of iron ore, tin, lithium and gold. The proposed collaboration is expected to improve operational efficiency, enhance workforce training and support responsible mineral extraction and processing within Nigeria.
A second partnership with Renewvia Energy Corporation will develop renewable energy solutions to power mining and mineral processing facilities. Beyond industrial operations, the companies say the project is intended to extend affordable and reliable electricity to surrounding host communities, linking mining investment with broader rural development.
The third agreement involves Terra Industries, which will provide enhanced security support designed to protect mining infrastructure and strengthen the resilience of operations in mineral-producing areas. Officials say improved security is critical to attracting long-term investment and addressing challenges associated with illegal mining and operational risks.
According to the Federal Government, the three agreements are expected to drive technology transfer, local value addition, job creation and sustainable economic development. Rather than exporting raw mineral resources, Nigeria is seeking to expand domestic processing capacity and retain greater economic value from its abundant critical mineral reserves.
The initiative aligns with the government’s broader strategy of positioning solid minerals as a pillar of economic diversification, particularly as global demand grows for lithium and other minerals used in batteries, renewable energy technologies and advanced manufacturing.
Industry observers say the success of the partnerships will ultimately depend on effective implementation, regulatory certainty and continued collaboration between government and private investors. If the projects progress as planned, they could strengthen Nigeria’s role in global critical minerals supply chains while deepening commercial relations with the United States and creating lasting opportunities across the country’s mining value chain.
