Tragedy in Mexico: Mexican Police commence investigations over TikTok Influencer Valeria Márquez death During Livestream

On May 13, 2025, 23-year-old Mexican beauty influencer Valeria Márquez was tragically shot and killed during a TikTok live stream at her beauty salon, Blossom The Beauty Lounge, in Zapopan, Jalisco. With nearly 200,000 followers across TikTok and Instagram, Márquez was known for her engaging beauty and makeup content. Moments before the attack, she expressed unease about a recent visitor who had brought her an expensive gift, stating, “They’re coming,” before muting the livestream. Shortly thereafter, a man entered the salon and fatally shot her. 

Investigation Underway

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has announced that the country’s top security cabinet is leading the investigation into Márquez’s murder. The case is being treated as a possible femicide, reflecting the ongoing crisis of gender-based violence in Mexico. Authorities are working diligently to identify the perpetrator and determine the motive behind this heinous act.

Márquez’s death has sparked widespread outrage and brought renewed attention to the issue of femicide in Mexico, where approximately 10 women are murdered daily. The incident underscores the dangers women face and the urgent need for systemic action to combat gender-based violence in the country.
