Nigerian singer Spyro has shared his thoughts on the behavior of the wealthy, particularly billionaires, and issued a stern warning to those who expect something for nothing.
In an Instagram story, Spyro pointed out that the rich, especially so-called billionaires, are often the ones who owe the most. He observed that while these individuals can spend hundreds of millions on women, they seem reluctant to pay for the value others offer. He cautioned such people to steer clear of him, stressing that he worked hard to get where he is and refuses to settle for anything less than what he deserves. Spyro firmly stated, “The people that owe the most are the RICH. Always wanting free things, especially your so-called billionaires. They can spend hundreds of millions on women, but when it comes to paying for value tendered, they begin to misbehave. Sha don’t bring it near me o, I worked really hard to be here and I ain’t pøor so if you want my services you pay my price. Simple.”
Spyro’s message comes amid ongoing controversies with other figures in the industry. In a recent interview, he accused music executive Ubi of owing him $5,000 for a performance in Ghana. Ubi denied the accusation, instead claiming that Spyro owed him money. He recalled introducing Spyro to a car dealer and expecting a 10% commission, which he claimed Spyro failed to provide.
Spyro, however, responded by showcasing his material possessions and emphasized that God had been faithful to him without requiring a 10% commission from anyone.
The Who Is Your Guy singer also revisited his struggles while signed to Paulo Okoye’s record label. He revealed that he had to take out a loan to support himself while working with the label, as he claimed he never earned anything from the deal. Okoye denied these allegations, sharing receipts that showed he had spent N12 million on Spyro without receiving any financial return. In response, Spyro stood by his story, recalling how he had even been chased out of a hotel abroad. Despite the challenges, Spyro expressed his gratitude for Paulo’s support and for giving him a platform.
In other news, Spyro took the opportunity to send a message to upcoming artists. He warned them that signing with the biggest label or artist does not guarantee success. Spyro advised them that raw talent alone, without hard work and diligence, would not lead to a fruitful career. He encouraged aspiring artists to stop waiting for labels or people to invest in them and, instead, start investing in themselves. He concluded, “Stop building castles in the air, waiting for labels/people, and start investing in yourselves.”
