In a powerful and deeply personal moment during the June 7, 2025 Holy Ghost Service at the Redemption City of God in Ogun State, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor E.A. Adeboye, delivered a shocking revelation that left the congregation in awe.
Speaking on the theme “Destined for Greatness (Part 2),” Pastor Adeboye recounted an early spiritual encounter that shaped the entire course of his ministry. In his words, God issued him a stern warning at the very beginning of his walk with Christ—one that would define his path and keep him rooted in the denomination that would eventually grow into a global movement. The instruction was clear and terrifying: if he ever left RCCG, his firstborn child would die.
At the time, the Redeemed Christian Church of God was still a modest fellowship, operating from a humble building in Ebute‑Metta, Lagos. It was far from the global church network it is today. Pastor Adeboye, then a young university lecturer, had just surrendered his life to Christ and was still navigating his spiritual growth. Like many new believers, he found himself curious and drawn to other rapidly growing ministries in Nigeria. These churches seemed vibrant and appealing, and the temptation to leave RCCG for one of them was strong.
But in the midst of this internal tug-of-war, Adeboye said God’s voice came to him with unmistakable clarity and gravity: “Son, I brought you here. This is where you will stay. The day you leave this denomination, your firstborn will die.”
The weight of that message was not lost on him. It was a moment of fear, conviction, and submission. It was also the beginning of an unshakable commitment to remain within the Redeemed Christian Church of God—no matter what. Adeboye chose obedience, deciding to serve under the leadership of the church’s founder, despite the fact that his mentor lacked formal education and was considered unqualified by worldly standards.
That moment of surrender, guided by divine instruction, set the foundation for what would later become one of the largest Pentecostal movements in the world. But according to Pastor Adeboye, the message wasn’t about promoting RCCG as superior to any other denomination. It was a lesson in divine placement—understanding where God wants you to be and remaining there, even when the surroundings seem unremarkable.
Adeboye used the moment to address a trend among many young Christians today: the tendency to jump from one church to another in search of better music, more dynamic preaching, or seemingly more glamorous platforms. He urged them to resist the urge to move based on surface-level attraction, and instead to seek God’s voice. His story served as a sobering reminder that divine assignments often come with both promises and consequences.
He emphasized that staying in the place where God has planted you can be the key to fulfilling one’s purpose and unlocking greatness. “It’s not about how big the church is, or who is leading it,” he said. “It’s about where God wants you. When He places you somewhere, there is a reason. There is a destiny attached.”
The service, held at the expansive Redemption City in Ogun State, drew tens of thousands of worshippers from around the country and abroad. Many who attended described the atmosphere as intense and deeply spiritual, especially after the emotional testimony from the revered pastor.
Adeboye’s words resonated not just because of their spiritual weight, but because they came from a man who has lived through the process—someone who had every worldly reason to pursue bigger stages, yet chose to remain where God instructed. And as history has shown, that obedience has yielded fruit far beyond imagination.
The story serves as a spiritual wake-up call to believers everywhere: greatness often begins with obedience, humility, and unwavering trust in divine guidance—even when the road looks narrow and the destination unclear.
Note these reports are all allegedly, as seen on the internet.
