Supreme Court Judgment: Wike’s Aide Tells Fubara He Can’t Decide Who Runs Rivers LGs

The political tension in Rivers State has intensified following a Supreme Court ruling, as an aide to former Governor Nyesom Wike has declared that the current governor, Siminalayi Fubara, does not have the power to determine who runs the local government areas (LGAs) in the state.

Supreme Court’s Ruling and Its Implications

The Supreme Court recently delivered a verdict that has sparked fresh controversy in Rivers politics. The ruling, which addresses the administration of local government councils, has reignited the ongoing power struggle between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, who now serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Following the judgment, a key aide to Wike insisted that the Supreme Court’s decision does not grant Fubara the authority to unilaterally decide who takes charge of the LGAs. This statement comes amid speculations that the governor might attempt to dissolve the current local government leadership, many of whom are believed to be loyal to Wike.

Political Tension Between Wike and Fubara

Since assuming office, Governor Fubara has been in a silent battle with his predecessor, Wike, over control of political structures in Rivers State. The friction has been evident in several political moves, appointments, and public statements from both camps.

Many of the local government chairmen and political stakeholders in the state were installed during Wike’s administration, and their loyalty largely remains with him. Governor Fubara, on the other hand, has been pushing to assert his authority as the leader of the state.

Wike’s Aide: Fubara Must Follow Due Process

Reacting to speculations about possible changes in local government leadership, Wike’s aide cautioned Fubara against taking unilateral actions, stressing that any decision regarding the LGAs must be in line with the law and the Supreme Court’s judgment.

He warned that any attempt by the governor to sack or replace the current council officials would be met with legal resistance. According to him, local government leadership is a constitutional matter, and only due process can determine changes in administration.

Calls for Stability in Rivers State

The escalating political battle in Rivers State has left many residents concerned about governance and stability. Political analysts have urged both Wike and Fubara to set aside their differences and focus on the development of the state rather than engaging in power struggles.

Meanwhile, supporters of both leaders continue to argue over the rightful control of local government affairs, with some backing Fubara’s authority as the sitting governor, while others insist that Wike’s influence remains strong in the state’s political landscape.

What’s Next for Rivers Politics?

As the situation unfolds, all eyes remain on Governor Fubara’s next steps and how he will navigate the challenges of local government administration. With legal battles and political intrigues on the horizon, Rivers State may witness more dramatic developments in the coming weeks.
