Super Eagles Retain 39th Position in Latest FIFA World Ranking

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have held onto their 39th position in the most recent FIFA World Rankings, released on September 19, 2024. Despite their performance in recent matches, Nigeria remains consistent in both the global and African standings.

Nigeria’s Position in Africa

In the African rankings, the Super Eagles currently sit in sixth place. They trail behind Africa’s top teams, which include Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire, and Tunisia. Morocco, known as the Atlas Lions, holds the highest rank among African nations, standing at 14th globally. Senegal follows in 21st place, with Egypt ranked 31st. Côte d’Ivoire, the reigning Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champions, is ranked 33rd, while Tunisia occupies 36th place on the global stage.

Performance in AFCON 2025 Qualifiers

The Super Eagles’ recent form in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers has been commendable. Under interim coach Austin Eguavoen, Nigeria secured an impressive 3-0 victory over Benin Republic in Uyo and held Rwanda to a goalless draw in Kigali. Despite these strong performances, the team’s position in the global rankings has remained unchanged.

Top 10 FIFA World Ranking

The top 10 teams in the FIFA World Ranking have also seen no changes. Argentina, the reigning World Cup champions, maintains the number one spot, followed by France in second place. Spain rounds out the top three, with England in fourth and Brazil in fifth. Other teams in the top 10 include Belgium (6th), the Netherlands (7th), Portugal (8th), Colombia (9th), and Italy (10th).

Looking Ahead for the Super Eagles

With the upcoming AFCON tournament and more international fixtures on the horizon, the Super Eagles will be looking to climb higher in the rankings. Continued strong performances and further victories in competitive matches could see Nigeria break into the top 30 in future rankings.

Maintaining Global Presence

The Super Eagles’ ability to maintain a stable ranking amidst fierce competition in Africa and on the global stage is a testament to their consistency. As they prepare for upcoming challenges, the team’s focus will be on improving their standing both in Africa and globally, continuing to make strides towards greater success.
