Renowned Fuji musician Saheed Osupa has officially withdrawn the legal case filed against controversial street-hop artist Portable, following pleas from prominent Nigerians and a display of compassion toward the embattled singer.
Earlier this week, Kemi Filani reported that Portable had been arrested by the Kwara State Police Command over allegations of criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, character assassination, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. He was remanded to a correctional facility after failing to meet bail conditions, which included a ₦1 million bond and two sureties — one being a recognized member of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN). His case was adjourned to April 30, 2025.
In a press release issued by Osupa’s team, it was clarified that the legal proceedings were not rooted in personal grievances but were rather initiated to address what they described as a grave violation of intellectual property rights and a disturbing trend of public misconduct. The intention, according to the team, was to set an example and promote discipline among younger artists.
However, moved by Portable’s plight and the intervention of respected figures including Alhaji Ahmad Lawal (CEO, Lahmad Concepts), Saheed Ibile (CEO, Harmony Holdings Ltd), Alh. Fatai Lajero (on behalf of Olufimo Royal Parliament), and Alh. Waheed Ogunsesan (National President, Olufimo Fans Club), Saheed Osupa gave a personal directive to have the case withdrawn.
“This decision is driven by compassion and the hope that this moment will serve as a turning point in Portable’s life and career,” the statement read.
“Osupa believes that while accountability is essential, mercy, too, is a pillar of leadership.”
However, the withdrawal comes with three conditions for Portable:
- Retract his public statement suggesting that Saheed Osupa should be held responsible if anything happens to him.
- Confess that his lawyer’s claim — alleging that Portable held Osupa’s leg while begging for forgiveness — was false, as Osupa never even saw him in person.
- Sign an undertaking pledging to desist from further cyberbullying, defamation, and character assassination.
“KING SAHEED OSUPA ORDERS WITHDRAWAL OF LEGAL CASE AGAINST PORTABLE, CITING COMPASSION AND PUBLIC PLEAS,” the statement emphasized.
This development follows last month’s copyright infringement controversy, in which Osupa successfully had one of Portable’s songs removed from Spotify and other streaming platforms.
In retaliation, Portable lashed out at the Fuji legend, mocking his appearance and questioning his relevance in today’s music scene. However, he later backtracked, apologizing publicly and blaming his behavior on greed.
With the legal matter now dropped, all eyes are on Portable to see whether he honors the conditions and embraces the opportunity for personal growth.
