Rivers State Governor Fubara Declares Victory Over Political Opponent

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced the defeat of his political adversaries, declaring that his battles are over. Speaking at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Fubara asserted that his opponents are now the ones “sleeping with their two eyes open,” as he successfully turned the tide against them.

Political Feud and Impeachment Plot

Fubara’s declaration comes amid an ongoing feud with his predecessor and former political ally, Nyesom Wike. Last October, Fubara survived an impeachment attempt orchestrated by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to Wike. This week, the political tension escalated further as nine cabinet members aligned with Wike resigned from their positions.

 Address to Ijaw Youth Council

During a meeting with the national and state leadership of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) on Thursday, Fubara expressed his gratitude for their support. The IYC leaders were in Port Harcourt for a solidarity walk as part of the celebrations for Isaac Adaka Boro Day, commemorating the late Major Isaac Adaka Boro’s contributions to the Ijaw people and the Niger Delta.

“I am happy that you’ve told me this morning that when I call on you, you will respond. But there is nothing to call on you for because we have already defeated them,” Fubara told the IYC leaders.

Celebrating Isaac Adaka Boro Day

The solidarity walk marked the 56th anniversary of Isaac Adaka Boro’s death. Boro, a revered figure among the Ijaw people, founded the Niger Delta Volunteer Force and briefly declared the Niger Delta Republic in 1966. He was later granted amnesty and commissioned as a Major in the Nigerian Army, but was killed under mysterious circumstances in 1968.

Fubara praised Boro’s legacy of equity, justice, and fair play, emphasizing the continued celebration of Boro’s ideals and the liberation of the Ijaw people.

Assurances of Support and Call for Peaceful Conduct

The governor urged Ijaw youths to maintain peace during the celebrations and highlighted the state’s current atmosphere of victory over political adversaries. He reiterated that every genuine Rivers man, regardless of ethnic background, is a liberator.

IYC Leadership’s Response

Jonathan Lokpobiri, National President of the IYC, described the meeting as historic, expressing full support for Fubara’s administration. Lokpobiri commended Fubara’s bravery and commitment to good governance, reflecting the aspirations of the Ijaw people.

Tamuno Kpokpo, Chairman of IYC’s Eastern Zone, clarified that their visit was to support the continuous development of Rivers State, not to instigate ethnic conflict. He assured that the IYC would resist any attempts to disrupt governance in the state.

Governor Fubara’s address to the IYC underscored his administration’s resilience and the support from key groups within Rivers State. As the state marks the first anniversary of his administration, Fubara remains steadfast in his commitment to overcoming political challenges and advancing the state’s development.
