A viral report circulating online that suggested the removal of the current INEC Chairman and his alleged replacement with Professor Bashiru Olamilekan has been dismissed as false by the Presidency.
Reacting swiftly to the misinformation, O’tega Ogra, the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Digital and New Media, took to X (formerly Twitter) to clarify the situation. In his statement, he urged Nigerians to ignore the trending claims, labelling them as baseless.
“Disregard any fake news making the rounds about the replacement of the INEC Chairman,” Ogra wrote.
He further explained that any official decisions or announcements regarding such a significant position would only be communicated through recognized government channels.
“Any such announcement will come from the SGF’s office or any other official source,” he added.
The unverified news had sparked widespread reactions across social media platforms, fueling speculation and concern. However, as it stands, there has been no confirmation from the Presidency or any relevant Federal Government agency regarding the alleged replacement.
The public is urged to rely solely on official sources for credible information to avoid being misled by viral, unverified claims.
