Police Arrest Suspects in Connection with the Murder of 21-Year-Old Unilorin Student

Discovery of the Victim’s Body

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested several suspects in connection with the tragic murder of Awesu Mojisola, a 21-year-old student of the Kwara State College of Health Technology. The lifeless body of Mojisola was discovered at a dumpsite in the Aleniboro area of Ilorin on August 11, 2024. This shocking discovery has sent waves of concern and grief throughout the community.

Missing Person Report Filed

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, the investigation began when a missing person report was filed on August 13, 2024, at approximately 4:30 PM. The report was made by Miss Blessing O., a resident of Gbomi’s area in Offa, Kwara State, who reported that her roommate, Miss Awesu Mojisola, had been missing since August 9, 2024.

Events Leading to the Tragedy

The statement detailed that on August 9, Miss Mojisola received a phone call from a fellow student, Miss Timileyin, who informed her about an event organized by students of Summit University and Al-Hikmah University in Ilorin. Timileyin introduced Mojisola to one Mr. Adebayo Happiness, a student of Summit University, who allegedly invited her to a night party under the pretense of hiring her to act as his girlfriend for a fee of fifteen thousand naira (#15,000.00).

Last Known Communication

Upon arriving in Ilorin, Mojisola informed her roommate, Miss Blessing, that she felt uneasy at the hotel where Adebayo Happiness had lodged her. She mentioned that there was no party at the location as promised. This was the last communication from Mojisola before her phone was switched off, and all subsequent attempts by Miss Blessing to reach her were unsuccessful.

Discovery of the Body and Investigation

The statement from the police also revealed that on August 12, 2024, at approximately 7:30 AM, Mr. Olorunoje, a resident of the Aleniboro area, reported the discovery of Mojisola’s body. He was informed by laborers who had found her body at a refuse dump near the Aleniboro area. The police responded promptly, dispatching a team of detectives to the scene. The scene was thoroughly examined, and traces of blood were found near the left ear of the deceased. The body was then transported to the General Hospital in Ilorin, where a medical examination confirmed her death.

Ongoing Investigation and Arrests

Following the identification of the body as Miss Awesu Mojisola, the Kwara State Police Command arrested several suspects in connection with the case. The investigation is ongoing, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further discreet investigation.
