Ondo State APC primary Election continues today

The governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, which was conducted on Saturday, April 20, 2024, is set to conclude today. The announcement of the election results, initially scheduled to begin at 7 am, was put on hold.

The primary election took place in 203 wards across the state, but unfortunately, incidents of violence marred the process in some areas, notably in Akure, Okitipupa, and Ilaje.

Several aspirants expressed dissatisfaction and protested over the non-availability of election materials. A member of the Primary Election Committee, who chose not to disclose their name, revealed that the election was inconclusive in certain areas of Okitipupa and other parts of the state. They further stated that the final collation of results would commence after the elections were concluded in those areas.

Journalists spent several hours at the Dome International Event Center, which was designated as the venue for the collation and announcement of the results. The delay in announcing the results created a sense of anticipation and tension among party supporters and observers.

The incidents of violence and delays in the primary election process have raised concerns about the transparency and credibility of the electoral process. Some observers have criticized the handling of the primaries, citing issues such as inadequate security measures, logistical challenges, and allegations of irregularities.

The involvement of security agencies and relevant authorities has been called for to ensure that the remaining parts of the primary election are conducted peacefully and transparently.
