Manchester City have officially signed Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri in a £31 million deal, making him their latest addition ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup. The 24-year-old Algeria international has signed a contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2030.
Ait-Nouri will be eligible to play in the group stage of the newly expanded Club World Cup, where City kick off their campaign on 18 June against Moroccan side Wydad AC.
A Rising Star Joins the Champions
Ait-Nouri has steadily risen through the Premier League ranks since his arrival from French side Angers. Initially joining Wolves on loan, he made the move permanent in 2021 for £14.9 million. Last season, he became one of Wolves’ standout performers, contributing 5 goals and 7 assists across 41 appearances, helping the club avoid relegation and boosting his profile across Europe.
Now, he takes a major step in his career by joining Pep Guardiola’s star-studded side.
“City are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and the chance to play here is a dream come true,” said Ait-Nouri in his first statement as a City player. “I look forward to learning from Pep Guardiola and playing alongside some of the best players in football.”
City’s Transfer Ambitions Continue
Ait-Nouri is City’s second confirmed summer signing, following the recent agreement to bring in Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan for £46.3 million. The Dutch midfielder is expected to bolster City’s depth in midfield, as the club looks to build on its treble-winning legacy and continue dominating both domestically and internationally.
With these signings, City’s total spending for 2025 is climbing rapidly, having already splashed over £200 million in January. The club is clearly reinforcing key positions ahead of a busy season that includes Premier League defense, Champions League challenges, and Club World Cup glory.
More Moves in the Pipeline
City are not done yet. The club is currently in advanced talks with Chelsea to sign goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli, 33, who has served as third-choice at Stamford Bridge for four seasons. City are keen to finalize the deal before Tuesday’s transfer deadline, aiming to provide more experience and depth between the sticks.
Meanwhile, City confirmed that veteran goalkeeper Scott Carson, who has been with the club since 2019, will depart this summer when his contract expires. Carson made just a few appearances during his time but played an important role in the squad as a mentor and training ground leader.
Wolves Losing Key Talent
Wolves, on the other hand, have now lost two of their top talents in the same transfer window. Just days earlier, Manchester United agreed a £62.5 million deal to sign Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha, further weakening Gary O’Neil’s squad ahead of the new season. With Ait-Nouri gone as well, Wolves fans will be watching closely to see how the club reinvests the income to stay competitive.
With Ait-Nouri’s arrival, Manchester City not only add depth to their defense but also secure one of the Premier League’s most promising full-backs ,just in time for their global campaign.
