Nigeria’s Coach Urges Cricket Enthusiasts to Rally Behind Team in T20i Invitational Tournament

In anticipation of the upcoming Nigeria Cricket Federation T20i invitational tournament, Head Coach Leke Oyede is rallying cricket enthusiasts across the nation to show their support for the senior female cricket team, the Female Yellow Greens.

Tournament Overview

The fifth edition of the NCF T20i invitational tournament is set to kick off from February 23 to March 4 at the Tafawa Balewa Cricket Oval in Lagos. This year, the competition will see the participation of four teams, including last year’s runners-up Rwanda, Sierra Leone, and debutants Tanzania.

Nigeria’s Title Defense

Having clinched victory in the previous edition by defeating arch-rivals Rwanda, Oyede emphasizes the importance of the fans’ support as the team aims for a successful title defense. The coach is optimistic about the team’s preparation, citing increased playing time, international exposure, and participation in the South-South Female League.

Coach’s Perspective

“We are doing our best to prepare. I believe we have a better team now because most of the players have had ample playing time between last year and now. This includes international exposure and the recently concluded South-South Female League, where most players took part. Our hard work and the support of home fans will go a long way,” Oyede said.

Team’s Preparation and Schedule

The Female Yellow Greens have been in camp in Benin City, Edo State, since last week and will be heading to Lagos to finalize their preparations. The tournament is scheduled to commence on Sunday, February 25, with Tanzania facing off against 2022 champions Rwanda at 10 am. Nigeria will then take on West African rival Sierra Leone at 2:15 pm on the same day.

As the cricket community eagerly awaits the tournament’s commencement, the call for fan support echoes the crucial role enthusiasts play in motivating the team to secure victory once again.
