NDLEA Arrests Woman Attempting to Smuggle Cocaine at Port Harcourt Airport

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have apprehended Ihensekhien Miracle Obehi, a 24-year-old woman, at the Port Harcourt International Airport for attempting to smuggle over 2.5 kilograms of cocaine to Iran. The arrest occurred on May 3, 2025, as she was preparing to board a Qatar Airways flight to Tehran via Doha.

Concealment Methods and Discovery

Obehi, who was dressed in a hijab to evade security checks, was subjected to a thorough search upon suspicion. Authorities discovered:

Three wraps of cocaine concealed in her private parts.

Two large parcels hidden in false compartments of her handbag.

Sixty-seven pellets of cocaine that she had ingested.

After being placed under medical observation, she expelled all 67 pellets over several days. She admitted to swallowing 67 pellets and inserting the remaining three into her private parts due to discomfort. The total weight of the drugs amounted to 2.523 kilograms.

NDLEA’s Ongoing Efforts and Other Arrests

This operation is part of the NDLEA’s broader efforts to combat drug trafficking. In a separate incident, a 22-year-old British national was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos with 37.6 kilograms of cannabis concealed in his luggage. Additionally, significant drug seizures have been made in various states, including the interception of a fuel truck carrying over 3,000 kilograms of cannabis in Niger State. The arrest of Ihensekhien Miracle Obehi underscores the NDLEA’s commitment to disrupting international drug trafficking networks. The agency continues to monitor and interdict illicit drug shipments across the country.
