Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has declared that his physical assets have remained unchanged since his departure from office, underscoring his commitment to public service over personal gain.
Speaking during a visit from members of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) at his residence in Kaduna on Monday, Buhari urged the governors to prioritize the welfare of the people rather than their personal interests.
In a statement released Wednesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Buhari emphasized the importance of citizen-focused leadership, using himself as an example of integrity in governance.
“He also said leaders should accord importance to the welfare of the people, not themselves, offering his personal example of leaving office with the same physical assets he had before his presidency,” the statement read in part.
The former president expressed confidence in the progress being made by governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and encouraged them to remain steadfast in their dedication to the nation’s development.
“The former president expressed confidence in the progress made by the governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress and reiterated his call for continued dedication to the nation’s progress.”
He highlighted the dual nature of leadership, noting that while it comes with challenges, it also offers unique opportunities to drive positive change when approached with the right mindset.
“The statement quoted Buhari as calling for a citizen-centric approach, saying leadership presents both challenges and opportunities that, when balanced, would ensure national progress.”
Buhari also extended his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu’s administration for renovating his Kaduna home. While the exterior of the house remains unchanged, he acknowledged significant internal upgrades.
“Buhari thanked the Tinubu administration for renovating his home in Kaduna, explaining that while the building looked very much the same externally, so much improvement was made inside.”
