A 21-year-old man, Ahmad Yusuf Muhammad, has been arrested in Kano by the Department of State Services (DSS) for allegedly producing Russian flags. His family, however, vehemently denies the allegations, stating that Ahmad has no knowledge of how to handle a sewing machine, let alone produce flags.

“He is my biological brother, he was arrested because they said he was the one sewing the Russian flag. I want to clarify that he was never a tailor, he had never been and doesn’t even know how to handle a sewing machine,” Nasiru said.
Ahmad’s Background: A Recycling Dealer, Not a Tailor
Nasiru provided further context about Ahmad’s background, explaining that Ahmad is involved in the recycling business, specifically in dealing with used water sachets. The family has been engaged in this business, and Ahmad works directly under Nasiru in this trade. The arrest, Nasiru suggests, may have resulted from a misunderstanding or miscommunication, possibly due to fear or trauma.
Misplaced Evidence and Misidentification?
Adding to the confusion, Nasiru pointed out that the sewing machine reportedly linked to Ahmad did not belong to him. The machine was found in a neighbor’s house, whose owner has since fled. Additionally, the flag in question was not in Ahmad’s possession, and according to his family, Ahmad did not participate in the protests or raise any flags.

The family is calling on the security agencies and concerned authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the case. They believe that Ahmad has been wrongly implicated and urge for his release, stressing that he is not guilty of the charges against him.
“We are appealing to the concerned authorities to please look critically into this issue and release him. He was not a tailor and has not committed the offense he is being held for,” Nasiru pleaded.
