Man Arrested for Allegedly Stabbing Newlywed Wife to Death in Lagos

The police in Lagos State have apprehended a 30-year-old man, Motunrayo Olaniyi, in connection with the tragic death of his newlywed wife, Olajumoke. The incident occurred on Friday, October 4, at Amazing Grace Estate, Elepe, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos.

Details of the Incident

According to a statement from police spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the couple was involved in a domestic altercation during which Olaniyi allegedly stabbed Olajumoke, aged 25, multiple times. Following the assault, he reportedly locked her in their room and set it on fire before inflicting wounds on himself.

Police Response

Responding to a distress call, officers from the Ikorodu Division arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire. They discovered Olajumoke’s lifeless body, which had sustained severe abdominal injuries. Olaniyi was rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. After his discharge, he was taken into police custody for further investigation.

Ongoing Investigation

A preliminary investigation indicated that Olaniyi had indeed stabbed his wife during their argument and had inflicted minor injuries on himself afterward. The deceased’s body has been sent to the Ikorodu General Hospital morgue for an autopsy, and investigations are continuing.
