Kogi State Assembly Deputy Speaker Enema Paul Resigns Due to Ill Health, Nwochiola Emerges as Successor

Lln a significant development at the Kogi State House oAssembly, Deputy Speaker Enema Paul tendered his resignation on health grounds during Thursday’s plenary session. The seasoned lawmaker, who had been battling an undisclosed illness since 2011, expressed gratitude to Governor Yahaya Bello and members of the 7th Kogi State House of Assembly for their unwavering support and prayers throughout his health journey.

Enema Paul, in a heartfelt address on the floor of the House, acknowledged the love and care extended to him by Governor Bello. He revealed that despite seeking medical attention abroad, his health had not shown significant improvement. The gravity of his deteriorating condition led him to make the difficult decision to step down from his position.

The Deputy Speaker disclosed that he had previously traveled abroad for medical treatment and surgery, but the ailment persisted. He shared that the foreign hospital continued to request his return for further treatment, emphasizing the urgency of his health situation. Consequently, he sought permission from the assembly to travel abroad for a year to focus on his recovery.

The resignation of Enema Paul prompted the House to accept his decision, with Speaker Aliyu Yusuf presiding over the proceedings. The Clerk of the House, Mr. Chogudo Ahmed, then called for nominations to fill the vacant position of Deputy Speaker.

Representative Abu Jibrin of Ajaokuta State Constituency nominated Hon. Ojoma Comfort Nwuchiola, the representative of Ibaji State Constituency, as the new Deputy Speaker. The nomination received a second from Seyi Bello, the representative of Kabba/Bunu State Constituency. Following the procedural acceptance, Mr. Chogudo Ahmed administered the oath of office to Nwuchiola.

In her acceptance speech, the newly appointed Deputy Speaker expressed gratitude to her colleagues and Governor Yahaya Bello for the opportunity to serve in this capacity. She called for increased unity and cooperation within the Assembly, emphasizing the need to work together for the betterment of Kogi State.

The transition in leadership reflects the assembly’s commitment to maintaining stability even in the face of unforeseen challenges.
