Actor John Stamos is clarifying his reasons for emceeing an event at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, following an online backlash over his involvement.
The Full House star addressed the controversy on April 7, explaining his decision to participate in the Palm Beach Ray of Hope Gala, held on April 5, in a series of Instagram Stories. “I accepted the invitation to emcee the Palm Beach Ray of Hope Gala—an evening dedicated to honoring and uplifting our frontline heroes,” John wrote.
Stamos highlighted the purpose of the gala, stating that it was a nonpartisan event supporting the Academy for Nursing and Health Occupations, a nonprofit that trains hundreds of nurses each year to help address the critical shortage of healthcare professionals in Palm Beach County.
“Supporting nurses isn’t political—it’s essential,” the 61-year-old actor continued. “These are the people who care for us and our families when we need it most, and I believe we should show up for them with the same unwavering dedication they show up with every single day.”
Throughout the post, Stamos reiterated his commitment to healthcare and the vital role of nurses in the community. He emphasized the importance of supporting those who dedicate their lives to service, regardless of political affiliations.
The gala featured a “Dancing with the Palm Beach Stars” event, where local community leaders danced alongside professional dancers, with the performances judged by former Dancing with the Stars stars Artem Chigvintsev and Karina Smirnoff.
Stamos also made it clear that while he participated in the event, his political stance remains unchanged. He expressed his belief in unity, compassion, and progress in America, pointing to his endorsement of Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential election.
Reflecting on the political climate, Stamos said in an Instagram post on Election Day: “It’s clear that our country is at a crossroads, and like many of you, I hope for a future where we can find unity and common ground. I believe our similarities far outweigh our differences, and deep down, we all want the best for our families, our communities, and our nation.”
He continued, “It’s this belief that drives my hope for a country that embodies fairness, compassion, and progress. As we look ahead, it’s no secret who I will be casting my vote for. We need a leader who prioritizes unity and strives to bridge the divides that have deepened over the past years.”
In closing, Stamos expressed hope for a country that fosters dialogue and pursues justice for all, reminding his followers, “Despite our differences, we share a common humanity.”
