Gombe Police Arrest Two Suspects for Adulterating Foodstuffs

Arrest Confirmed by Gombe State Police Command

The Gombe State Police Command has officially confirmed the arrest of two individuals, Bashir Haruna and Mohammed Isah, for their involvement in criminal conspiracy and the adulteration of food items.

Press Statement by Deputy Public Relations Officer

In a press statement released by Deputy Public Relations Officer, ASP Sharif Sa’ad, the suspects were apprehended for deliberately mixing approximately 57 bags of rice with chaff. The adulterated rice was intended to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.

Arrest Details and Credible Intelligence

According to Sa’ad, the arrest took place on the 24th of February 2024, around 11:00 am. Policemen from Akko Division acted on credible intelligence, intercepting and apprehending the suspects in possession of 57 bags of mixed chaff – a combination of rice and chaff. The intention was to sell this deceptive mixture as genuine rice at market prices.

Confession and Legal Action

During the interrogation, both suspects confessed to the crime of mixing and selling these adulterated bags of rice. The Gombe State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Hayatu Usman, promptly charged the suspects to court.

Commissioner of Police’s Advisory

In response to this alarming incident, Commissioner of Police Usman issued a warning to the public. He advised citizens to exercise caution when purchasing grains in sacks, urging them to be vigilant and avoid falling prey to such scams.

ASP Sharif Sa’ad reassured the public that the Gombe State Police Command is committed to ensuring better service delivery in carrying out its constitutional responsibilities. This includes the protection of lives and properties, maintenance of law and order, as well as the investigation and prosecution of offenders.
