The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a woman posing as a fertility nurse for defrauding 45 unsuspecting women of N28.2 million. The suspect falsely claimed to provide fertility treatments and assistance to help the women conceive.
The Fraudulent Scheme
The fake nurse lured her victims by promising them successful fertility treatments. She preyed on their vulnerability, assuring them that her services would lead to pregnancy. Over time, she collected significant sums of money from the victims, amounting to a total of N28.2 million. However, none of the treatments provided any results, and the suspect disappeared after receiving the payments.
Legal Action by EFCC
The EFCC, after conducting investigations, arrested and arraigned the suspect for her fraudulent activities. She is facing charges of obtaining money under false pretenses and committing fraud. The commission has vowed to ensure justice for the affected women and prevent similar scams in the future.
Emotional and Financial Impact on Victims
The victims of this scam not only suffered significant financial losses but also endured emotional trauma due to the false hope of becoming mothers. Many of them had invested their life savings in pursuit of a chance to conceive, only to be deceived by the suspect’s false claims.
The Ongoing Court Proceedings
The suspect appeared in court to face the charges brought against her. The EFCC has pledged to continue pursuing the case until justice is served for the victims. The court case is ongoing, and further updates are expected as more evidence is presented.
