EFCC Detains Cubana Chief Priest Over Naira Abuse Allegations

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained businessman and socialite, Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, ahead of his arraignment today before the Federal High Court in Lagos.

Cubana Chief Priest faces three counts of alleged abuse of the naira, accused of spraying and tampering with the nation’s currency at a social event, contravening the provisions of the Central Bank Act of 2007.

EFCC Confirmation

The spokesperson for the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, confirmed Cubana Chief Priest’s detention in a telephone interview, stating that he would be arraigned in court.

Details of Allegations

The charges, filed by EFCC’s prosecutor Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), allege incidents in 2020 and January and February 2024 where Cubana Chief Priest tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying them during social events.

Previous Conviction and Ongoing Investigations

The EFCC recently secured the conviction of another celebrity, Bobrisky, on similar charges. The commission revealed ongoing investigations into several celebrities over alleged naira abuse.
