Drake Urges Governor Gavin Newsom to Pardon Tory Lanez

Canadian rapper Drake has publicly expressed support for fellow artist Tory Lanez by sharing a petition urging California Governor Gavin Newsom to grant Lanez a pardon. Drake posted a link to the Change.org petition titled “Pardon Tory Lanez: Urge Governor Newsom to Correct a Deep Injustice” on his Instagram Story, accompanied by the message “@torylanez come home soon.”

Petition Highlights Alleged Judicial Misconduct

The petition contends that Lanez’s 2023 conviction for the 2020 shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion lacked sufficient physical evidence and was marred by prosecutorial misconduct. It also criticizes what it describes as “politically motivated sentencing enhancements.” At the time of reporting, the petition had garnered over 250,000 signatures.

Renewed Attention Following Prison Stabbing

Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, is currently serving a 10-year sentence. The case has drawn renewed public interest after reports emerged that Lanez was stabbed 14 times by another inmate, leading to his hospitalization. He has since been returned to the prison hospital and is reportedly in stable condition.

 Final Thoughts

Drake’s public support adds a high-profile voice to the calls for Lanez’s pardon. While the decision ultimately rests with Governor Newsom, the growing number of petition signatures reflects a significant public interest in the case.
