Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, one half of the iconic music duo Psquare, has stirred reactions online after sharing a cryptic and emotionally charged message about family, seemingly throwing shade at his own.
In a post shared via his Instagram Stories, Peter urged people not to suffer in silence because of family, revealing he endured such a situation for over 20 years, and it almost cost him everything.
“Don’t let family be the reason you’re drowning in silence. I did – for over 20 years plus. And it almost cost me everything. But now I know better – love doesn’t manipulate, loyalty doesn’t betray, and family doesn’t steal from you,” he wrote.
The award-winning artist went on to stress that real family does not harm, drain, or shame you, nor do they discriminate or ignore your pain.
“Family that steals and breaks you isn’t family at all. Real family doesn’t drain you, shame you, discriminate against you, or ignore your pain.
My sanity matters. My mental health is a priority. If it costs my mental health, then it’s too expensive.”
Peter’s powerful words have drawn widespread attention, as they appear to be a thinly veiled reference to his long-standing issues with his siblings, particularly his twin brother Paul Okoye and their elder brother Jude Okoye.
Back in 2023, the Psquare duo made headlines after reports of another fallout—this time over alleged financial misconduct involving their elder brother. According to Paul, Peter had involved the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in December 2023, resulting in his and Jude’s arrest over claims of mismanagement of joint funds. Paul claimed that after a full investigation, the EFCC cleared him of all allegations.
Peter, however, denied ever initiating the arrests. He maintained that instead of standing with him to rebuild their musical legacy, Paul chose to side with Jude, leading to further marginalization and personal humiliation.
Peter’s latest post seems to reflect deep-seated wounds and unresolved family tensions, with fans expressing concern and support for his openness about mental health and emotional well-being.
