Delta Traditional Rulers Pledge Support for President Tinubu in 2027

The Chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council has assured Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, that the people of Delta State will support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. This declaration was made during the First Lady’s visit to the state, where she engaged with traditional rulers and other key stakeholders.

Traditional Rulers Express Confidence in Tinubu’s Leadership

During the meeting, the traditional rulers emphasized their trust in President Tinubu’s administration, citing his efforts to improve Nigeria’s economy, infrastructure, and governance. The chairman of the council stated that Delta State, known for its rich political and economic influence in the South-South region, would throw its weight behind the president when the next election comes.

He further highlighted that the president’s ongoing reforms and policies are positively impacting the state and the country at large. The traditional rulers believe that continuity in leadership will help consolidate the gains already made under Tinubu’s administration.

Remi Tinubu Appreciates the Support

In response, First Lady Remi Tinubu expressed her gratitude to the traditional rulers for their assurances of loyalty and support. She reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to development projects in Delta State and other parts of the country.

She also urged the people of Delta to remain united and patient, promising that the administration will continue to address key issues affecting their welfare, such as infrastructure, education, and security.

Political Implications for 2027

The endorsement from Delta’s traditional rulers signals a potential political shift in the South-South region, which has historically been a stronghold for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). If the support materializes into actual votes, it could strengthen Tinubu’s chances of re-election in 2027 and weaken the PDP’s influence in Delta State.

Political analysts, however, caution that while traditional rulers play a crucial role in influencing public opinion, the final decision rests with the electorate. It remains to be seen whether the entire Delta populace shares the same sentiment as their traditional leaders. The 2027 presidential election is still a few years away, but early endorsements like this could shape political alliances and strategies. As President Tinubu’s administration continues its reforms, his support base in the South-South region may grow stronger or face resistance, depending on how well his government addresses the needs of the people.
