The Nigerian internet space is buzzing with controversy yet again, and this time, it’s a showdown between popular comedian Deeone and activist Deji Adeyanju—all triggered by the arrest of social media critic VeryDarkMan (VDM) by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the weekend.
In an Instagram video released early Monday morning, Deone didn’t hold back. The outspoken comedian called out Adeyanju for what he termed a hypocritical move—appealing to human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) to intervene in VDM’s case.
With passion and sarcasm, Deeone ranted:
“Dejiiiiiiiii! What should Mr. Falana do?? You cannot eat your cake and have it! You think say you dey wise?? Tell Nigerians the crime VeryDarkMan committed! Nobody is above the law! Everywhere good!”
The video quickly gained traction online, with many netizens divided in their reactions. Some supported Deeone, agreeing that Adeyanju should reveal the full story behind VDM’s arrest instead of playing the human rights card selectively. Others accused the comedian of turning serious legal issues into comedy and clout-chasing.
Deeone’s response appears to suggest that VDM may have crossed a legal line, and he believes Adeyanju is trying to shield him without full transparency. The comment “Nobody is above the law” echoes sentiments by others who feel VDM’s fame shouldn’t exempt him from scrutiny.
This is not the first time Deeone has stirred public debate with his unfiltered opinions. Known for speaking his mind on political and social matters, his latest post is another reminder that in Nigeria’s online community, the line between activism, clout, and accountability continues to blur.
