Chris Brown Remanded in UK Custody Over 2023 Nightclub Assault Allegation

American R&B singer Chris Brown has been remanded in custody in the United Kingdom following his arrest on May 15, 2025. The arrest is connected to an alleged assault that took place on February 19, 2023, at Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair district. Brown is accused of attacking music producer Amadou “Abe” Diaw with a bottle of Don Julio 1942 tequila and subsequently kicking and stomping him, resulting in serious injuries.

Legal Proceedings and Custody Status

Brown appeared at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on May 16, 2025, where he was formally charged with grievous bodily harm with intent. Judge Joanne Hirst denied bail, citing the severity of the offense, and ordered Brown to remain in custody until his next court appearance scheduled for June 13, 2025, at Southwark Crown Court in London. A second individual, rapper Omololu Akinlolu, known as HoodyBaby, has also been charged in connection with the incident. Both defendants are currently awaiting trial.

Impact on Upcoming Tour

Brown’s legal troubles have cast uncertainty over his “Breezy Bowl XX” world tour, which was set to commence on June 8, 2025, in Amsterdam. The tour includes performances across Europe and the UK, with a scheduled show in Frankfurt, Germany, on June 13—the same day as his next court hearing. The status of these performances remains unclear pending the outcome of legal proceedings.

Civil Litigation

In addition to the criminal charges, Diaw has filed a civil lawsuit against Brown, seeking £12 million ($16 million) in damages for the alleged assault and subsequent defamation. Diaw claims that Brown’s actions have caused significant harm to his professional reputation and personal well-being.
