Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, is reportedly on the verge of leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), in what could mark one of the most significant political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
The development was disclosed at the APC national headquarters in Abuja on Friday during the inauguration of the new Enugu State APC caretaker committee, led by former state chairman Ben Nwoye.
According to the party’s national leadership, Governor Mbah’s formal defection is expected to be officially announced at a ceremony scheduled to take place in Enugu next week.
Speaking after the inauguration, Nwoye confirmed the governor’s planned move, noting that Mbah will be joining the ruling party alongside members of his cabinet and political appointees.
Political analysts say the defection could further reshape the political dynamics in the South-East region, where the APC has been making gradual inroads.
Meanwhile, there are also growing speculations that Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, may soon follow suit by joining the APC, signaling what many see as a broader wave of defections as political camps begin to realign across the country.
