Blackface Criticizes Modern Nigerian Music and Rema

In a recent statement, Nigerian artist Blackface voiced his concerns about the direction of contemporary Nigerian music and its impact on the youth. He specifically referenced the lyrics of popular songs that, in his opinion, lack moral values and do not represent Nigeria positively.

Concerns Over Lyrics and Representation

Blackface highlighted lyrics from songs that boast about wealth and relationships in a way he finds problematic. He questioned whether artists are representing Nigeria appropriately, citing lines that focus on financial status and casual relationships. He expressed his disbelief that such songs can be accepted, saying, “I don’t see how somebody will be singing ‘I getti money pass your papa’ and then listen to this other lyrics that says ‘Fine girl wetin dey worry you bring body make I rock’am yeah yeah yeah…’”

A Father’s Perspective

The artist took a personal stance regarding his daughter’s potential romantic choices, humorously stating, “Na that boy my daughter wan carry come house for me… sey daddy I like this man, I want to marry him… I go kick two of una go outside.” His comment reflects a father’s protective instincts and his desire for his daughter to choose partners with better moral values.

Blackface concluded that many contemporary songs lack moral guidance and that the messages conveyed through music can significantly influence the younger generation. He believes that artists should be more mindful of the content they produce, emphasizing the importance of integrity and positive representation.
