A 26-year-old Atalanta fan tragically lost his life after being stabbed during violent clashes with Inter Milan supporters in Bergamo, Italy. The altercation began late on Saturday night in a pub and escalated onto the streets near Atalanta’s Gewiss Stadium. The victim, identified as Riccardo Claris, was fatally stabbed in the back. Despite immediate medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries .

Arrest Made in Connection with the Incident

Authorities have arrested a teenage male in his late teens, who claimed he acted in defense of his brother during the confrontation. The suspect, an Inter Milan supporter, is currently in custody as investigations continue .

Community’s Response and Club’s Tribute

In the aftermath of the tragedy, Atalanta fans honored Claris’s memory during their Serie A match against Monza, displaying a banner that read: “Claris Ovunque con noi” (“Claris everywhere with us”). Manager Gian Piero Gasperini condemned the violence, stating, “What happened to our fan must never happen again” .

Ongoing Issue of Football-Related Violence

This incident highlights the persistent problem of football-related violence in Italy. Earlier this year, clashes between AS Roma and Lazio supporters resulted in injuries to 13 police officers. Despite efforts to curb such violence, incidents like this continue to mar the sport’s reputation
