The Algerian football community has witnessed tragedy as their goalkeeper and assistant coach of MC El Bayadh, a top-flight club, lost his life in a devastating team bus crash.
The incident happened during the squad’s trip to Tizi Ouzou for a scheduled fixture against JS Kabylie. Alongside the incident, about ten players from MC El Bayadh sustained injuries in the accident.
The Algerian Football Federation, in response to the incident, decided to cancel all matches nationwide for the upcoming weekend across various leagues and competitions.
The fatal incident happened in Tiaret, situated approximately 150 kilometers (90 miles) from the Mediterranean coast. Unfortunately, the federation was not able to provide details regarding the cause of the incident.
In respect for the lives lost, the federation also stated the postponement of the draw for the next round of Algeria’s main cup competition, originally scheduled to take place on December 26. The new date for the draw will be communicated later.
The footballing community mourns the tragic loss of its members, stating the importance of safety measures and solidarity in the face of such unfortunate incidents.
