Abuja Hotel Victim Shares Harrowing Experience with Suspected Fraudster

In a shocking revelation, Olivia Ijeoma Chukwuemeka, a woman featured in a viral video tied up and undressed at the Top View Hotel in Abuja, has recounted her terrifying ordeal at the hands of suspected fraudster Joseph Efe.

Encounter on a Hookup Site

Chukwuemeka admitted that she had met Efe on a dating platform known as “coded runs” several months prior. Although she resides in Enugu, she frequently travels to Abuja for business purposes. After their initial interaction online, Efe lured her to the hotel under false pretenses.

The Disturbing Incident

Upon arriving at the hotel, Chukwuemeka described a chilling encounter. Efe reportedly asked her if she was afraid of death and warned her that cooperation would ensure her safety. He claimed to have an accomplice outside, threatening her with potential harm if she resisted.

Chukwuemeka pleaded for her safety, but Efe responded with violence, slapping her and demanding that she undress. When she attempted to escape, she found the door locked, with Efe in possession of the keys.

Methods of Restraint and Theft

Describing the incident in detail, Chukwuemeka recounted how Efe initially used her clothing to tie her hands. When that wasn’t sufficient, he resorted to using cellophane tape to bind her more securely. He turned the television volume up high to muffle her cries for help and gagged her with a handkerchief.

Efe then stole her phone, unlocking it by forcing her thumb onto the screen, and demanded her bank account details. Upon discovering that her account contained no funds, he warned her to remain silent and left the room.

Narrow Escape and Rescue

Chukwuemeka later noticed movement outside her door and recognized the uniforms of hotel staff. Desperate for help, she managed to drag herself to the window and banged on it, hoping to attract attention. Fortunately, a staff member heard her and saw her signaling in the direction Efe had fled.

This critical moment led to her eventual rescue, highlighting the importance of vigilance and quick action in such dangerous situations.

Psychological Impact

Chukwuemeka’s experience serves as a grim reminder of the risks associated with online dating platforms. Authorities, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), continue to emphasize the need for awareness and caution when engaging with strangers online.
